The Great Commission — “Go and make disciples” (Mt 28:18-20)
In English
Before ascending to heaven, the risen Lord entrusted to the Apostles — and in them to the whole Church — the great mission of bringing the Gospel to all peoples. These are the closing words of the Gospel according to Saint Matthew, the foundation of all missionary activity.
All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.
Matthew 28:18-20
Lord Jesus, who received from the Father all power in heaven and on earth and sent your disciples to make disciples of all nations: engrave this command upon us, that no baptised person may think himself excused from the mission. Give us the courage to go, the fidelity to teach what you taught, and the consoling certainty that you are with us all days, even to the end of the world. You who live and reign for ever.
Amen.

Data est mihi omnis potestas in cælo et in terra: euntes ergo docete omnes gentes: baptizantes eos in nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti: docentes eos servare omnia quæcumque mandavi vobis: et ecce ego vobiscum sum omnibus diebus, usque ad consummationem sæculi. (Mt 28,18-20)
