Prayer to St Camillus de Lellis — for the sick

A traditional Camillian prayer to their founder, declared by Leo XIII (1886) — together with St John of God — patron of hospitals, the sick, and healthcare workers. Form present in the Preces ad usum Ordinis Ministrantium Infirmis (Rome, Camillians, 1933 ed.).

O glorious St Camillus, father of the sick, who recognised Christ in the suffering face of each patient and founded a whole Order to serve him day and night at the bed of pain, intercede for us.

Obtain for the sick Christian patience, comfort in the long days, acceptance of the will of God, and the help of the holy sacraments at the last hour. Upon those who care for them — physicians, nurses, chaplains, families — bestow your spirit of mercy, competence, and faith.

By your merits and by the blood of Christ that made you an instrument of healing, obtain for us this grace which we ask of you (mention petition), if it be for the glory of God and the salvation of souls. Amen.

Our Father. Hail Mary. Glory be.
