Prayer for the Pontifical Mission Societies

The Pontifical Mission Societies are four works at the service of the universal mission of the Church: the Society for the Propagation of the Faith (Pauline Jaricot, Lyon, 1822), the Society of the Holy Childhood or Missionary Childhood (Bishop Charles de Forbin-Janson, 1843), the Society of Saint Peter the Apostle, for the formation of the local clergy (Jeanne and Stéphanie Bigard, 1889), and the Pontifical Missionary Union (Blessed Paolo Manna, 1916). Pope Pius XI granted them the title “Pontifical” in 1922 (motu proprio Romanorum Pontificum).

O God, Father of all peoples, who desire that all be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth: bless the Pontifical Mission Societies and all who through them sustain the evangelisation of the world. Give to children the spirit of Missionary Childhood, to the young Churches holy priests, and to the whole Church the awareness that “the whole Church is for the whole world.” Through Christ our Lord.
