Prayer for the missionary vocation of every baptised person

The Second Vatican Council teaches that “the pilgrim Church is missionary by her very nature” (Decree Ad Gentes, no. 2), and that the duty of spreading the faith is laid upon every disciple of Christ (Constitution Lumen Gentium, no. 17). Pope Francis recalls that “in virtue of their baptism, all the members of the People of God have become missionary disciples” (Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, no. 120).

Lord Jesus, who in Baptism made us members of your Body and sharers in your mission: awaken in us the awareness that there is no Christian without a mission. May we not wait to be sent far away, but proclaim the Gospel where we are — by word when necessary, and always by the witness of our life. Make of every baptised person a missionary disciple, and of our family, our work and our city a place where your name is known and loved. Through Christ our Lord.
