Prayer to the Guardian Angel (Angele Dei)

A medieval prayer to the Guardian Angel, traditionally attributed to Reginald of Piperno, secretary of St Thomas Aquinas (13th c.). It has accompanied Christians from childhood as a brief act of confidence in the angel guardian.

Angel of God, my Guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here: ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

In Latin

Angele Dei, qui custos es mei, me tibi commissum pietate superna; illumina, custodi, rege et guberna. Amen.
