For the Sick
Prayer drawn from the Rituale Romanum for the care of the sick. The Church, in imitation of the Good Samaritan, leans over the suffering one and asks the Lord for bodily health and the salvation of the soul. It is usually prayed at the bedside of the sick, together with the Visit to the Blessed Sacrament or after the Communion of the sick.
Antiphon
I was sick, and you visited me (Matthew 25:36). The Lord help him on his bed of sorrow: thou hast turned all his couch in his sickness (Psalm 40:4).
Prayer
Look mercifully, O Lord, upon thy servant (handmaid) afflicted with bodily infirmity, and revive the soul which thou hast created: that, purified by suffering, he (she) may soon find himself (herself) restored by thy healing. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer of the sick person
My Lord Jesus Christ, receive this illness in remission of my sins and in union with the sufferings of thy Passion. Grant me, if it pleases thee, bodily health; but above all, the health of the soul and the grace of a holy death, in thy friendship. Mary, Health of the Sick, pray for me. Amen.
In Latin
Antiphona: Infirmus eram, et visitastis me. — Dominus opem ferat illi super lectum doloris eius: universum stratum eius versasti in infirmitate eius.
Oremus: Respice, Domine, famulum tuum (famulam tuam) in infirmitate sui corporis fatiscentem, et animam refove quam creasti: ut, castigationibus emendatus (emendata), continuo se sentiat tua medicina salvatum (salvatam). Per Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.
