For Peace (Da pacem, Domine)

The antiphon Da pacem, Domine is one of the most ancient liturgical supplications of the Church, attested in the 9th century and sung at Vespers in times of war or public tribulation. It is followed by the collect Da pacem of the Roman Missal, among the Prayers for Various Needs.

Antiphon

Give peace, O Lord, in our days: because there is no other that fighteth for us, but only thou, our God.

Versicle and response

V. Let peace be in thy strength,
R. and abundance in thy towers (Psalm 121:7).

Collect

O God, from whom all holy desires, right counsels, and just works do proceed: give unto thy servants that peace which the world cannot give; that, our hearts being obedient to thy commandments, and the fear of enemies taken away, our times by thy protection may be peaceful. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

V. Fiat pax in virtute tua,

Amen.
