Consecration to the Divine Holy Spirit

On 9 May 1897, Pope Leo XIII published the encyclical Divinum Illud Munus, in which he prescribed the universal recitation of the Novena to the Divine Holy Spirit between the Ascension and Pentecost, and consecrated the imminent 20th century to the Paraclete, commending devotion and personal consecration to the Holy Spirit the Sanctifier. In keeping with this papal request, the present Consecration — which may be pronounced on the Sunday of Pentecost, on the anniversary of Baptism or Confirmation, or at any moment of the spiritual life — hands over to the Divine Holy Spirit the lordship over the soul, the senses, the works, and the eternal destiny of the consecrated.

Divine Holy Spirit, third Person of the Most Holy Trinity, eternal Love of the Father and of the Son, Sanctifier of souls: I prostrate myself today in your presence, and, in the name of the Father and of the Son, I consecrate myself entirely to you.

I consecrate to you my memory, that it may faithfully preserve the teachings of the Church, the graces received, the dead to whom I owe suffrage. I consecrate to you my intellect, that it may accept with humility the revealed truths and reject with firmness the errors of the world. I consecrate to you my will, that it may always seek what most pleases the Father, cost what it may.

I consecrate to you my senses, that they may open only to what leads to you and close to what draws away from you. I consecrate to you my words, that they may be true, edifying, full of your fire. I consecrate to you my works, that they may have for sole motive your love.

Take possession of me, O Divine Paraclete; reign over all that I am; lead me where you will, even where my own will does not wish. Make me docile to your seven gifts, fruitful in your twelve fruits (cf. Gal 5:22-23), and persevering until the hour in which I shall appear before the Father, in Christ, through you.

Come, Holy Spirit, and renew the face of this my little earth.
