Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows

Using a Seven Sorrows chaplet: seven large beads (one for each sorrow) and, between them, seven small beads. Begin with the Sign of the Cross.

On each large bead: announce the sorrow and pray one Our Father.

On each of the seven small beads: pray one Hail Mary, meditating on that sorrow of the Mother.

After the seven decades of seven Hail Marys, pray three further Hail Marys in honour of the tears Mary shed for sinners. Conclude with:

V. Pray for us, O Virgin most sorrowful.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray. Lord Jesus, we now implore, through the intercession of most holy Mary your Mother, whose most holy soul was pierced at the hour of your Passion by the sword of sorrow, that, sustained in this life by her loving intercession through the merits of your death, we may deserve the reward of eternal glory. Who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.
