Prayer for World Mission Sunday

World Mission Sunday was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1926 and is celebrated on the second-to-last Sunday of October. It is the day on which the whole Church becomes missionary, praying and cooperating for the evangelisation of the peoples and the support of the missions, coordinated by the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

Lord Jesus, the one Saviour of all, on the day when your whole Church becomes missionary, we ask you: look upon the peoples who do not yet know you and upon the many who have forgotten you. Raise up generous missionaries, sustain those who already labour in your harvest, comfort the persecuted Churches, and open our hearts to prayer, sacrifice and sharing for the missions. May your salvation reach to the ends of the earth. You who live and reign for ever.
