Collect for the Church in tribulation — “Ecclesiae tuae”

Collect of the Roman Missal, in liturgical use for many centuries as the prayer of the Votive Mass for the Church and of the Mass against the persecutors of the Church. By decree of the Sacred Apostolic Penitentiary of 23 November 1934, Pope Pius XI enriched this collect with a partial indulgence for devout recitation outside Mass, encouraging the faithful to make it their daily prayer for the Church, especially where she suffers. The text preserves, in concise Latin, the whole theology of the pilgrim Church: destrúctis adversitátibus et erróribus — once the adversities from without and the errors from within are overcome — so that she may serve God in secure freedom.

Latin (Missale Romanum, Mass for the Church):

Ecclésiae tuae, quǽsumus, Dómine, preces placátus admítte: ut, destrúctis adversitátibus et erróribus univérsis, secúra tibi sérviat libertáte. Per Christum Dóminum nostrum. Amen.

English (traditional Raccolta translation):

Graciously hear the prayers of thy Church, we beseech thee, O Lord: that, her enemies and all heresies being brought to nought, she may serve thee in perfect security and freedom. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

In Latin

Missale Romanum (Oratio pro Ecclesia):
Ecclésiae tuae, quǽsumus, Dómine, preces placátus admítte:
ut, destrúctis adversitátibus et erróribus univérsis,
secúra tibi sérviat libertáte.
Per Christum Dóminum nostrum. Amen.
