Prayer to St Jude Thaddaeus

A traditional prayer to the apostle invoked in difficult and desperate cases. The devotion was promoted by St Bridget of Sweden (14th c.), who received the indication to seek his intercession in causes deemed lost. Spread by the Dominicans from the 17th c. onward.

Most holy apostle St Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honours and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases and of things almost despaired of. Pray for me, who am so miserable; make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you, to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of.

Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succour of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly this grace I beg of you (mention petition), and that I may praise God with you and all the elect throughout eternity.

I promise you, blessed St Jude, ever to be mindful of this great favour, to honour you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to promote devotion to you. Amen.

Our Father. Hail Mary. Glory be.
