Si quaeris miracula — Responsory of St Anthony
A responsory composed by Friar Julian of Speyer (13th c.), a confrere of St Anthony, for the saint’s liturgical Office. For centuries it has been prayed to recover lost objects and in any urgent need. It always ends with the antiphon Gloria Patri and the versicle Ora pro nobis.
Responsory
If miracles you seek,
death, error, all calamities,
plague and want and sorrow flee:
to him for help repair.
The sea obeys and fetters break,
and lifeless limbs thou dost restore,
whilst treasures lost are found again,
when young or old thine aid implore.
To Anthony then turn,
and his patronage you’ll know.
V.
Pray for us, blessed Anthony.
R.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray
O God, may the votive commemoration of blessed Anthony, your Confessor, be a source of joy to your Church, that she may always be fortified with spiritual assistance and deserve to enjoy eternal rewards. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
