For Country and Civil Authorities
Traditional prayer for one’s country, based on the collect Pro Patria of the Roman Missal and on St Paul’s exhortation to Timothy: I desire therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men: for kings, and for all that are in high station: that we may lead a quiet and a peaceable life in all piety and chastity (1 Tim 2:1-2).
O God, in whose hands are the hearts of rulers and the destinies of nations: look with kindness upon this country which thou hast chosen for us. Give to those who govern us the wisdom of counsel, the courage of justice, and respect for thy Law. Inspire those who legislate to enact decisions conformed to the common good; the magistrates, righteous judgments; those who serve the people, a spirit of truth and disinterestedness.
Grant to this nation peace in order, prosperity in labor, and unity in truth. Turn away from us war, violence, corruption, and hatred. May we, under thy paternal gaze, grow as a Christian nation, faithful to the faith received from our fathers. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
In Latin
Concede populo nostro pacem in ordine, prosperitatem in labore, unitatem in veritate. Avertas a nobis bellum, violentiam, corruptionem et odium. Per Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.
