The Luminous Mysteries

Prayed on Thursdays. Added by St John Paul II in 2002, they contemplate the public life of the Lord.

  1. The Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan. The heavens open and the voice of the Father proclaims: this is my beloved Son. (Mt 3:13-17) — Fruit: baptismal grace.
  2. The Wedding at Cana. Mary’s intercession — do whatever he tells you — leads Jesus to manifest his glory. (Jn 2:1-12) — Fruit: trust in Mary.
  3. The proclamation of the Kingdom of God and the call to conversion. Jesus preaches the Good News and calls to metanoia. (Mk 1:14-15) — Fruit: sincere conversion.
  4. The Transfiguration on Mount Tabor. Christ manifests his glory before Peter, James, and John. (Mt 17:1-9) — Fruit: the desire for holiness.
  5. The institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. Jesus gives himself as the Bread of life. (Lk 22:14-20) — Fruit: devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.
