Ave Verum Corpus
Hail, true Body, truly born
of the Virgin Mary mild,
truly offered, racked and torn,
on the Cross for all defiled.
From whose love-pierced side did flow
water mingled with the blood:
be a foretaste sweet bestowed
in our death’s great agony.
O most kind! O gentle One!
O sweet Jesus, Mary’s Son!
Have mercy on us. Amen.
In Latin
Ave verum Corpus natum
de Maria Virgine,
vere passum, immolatum
in cruce pro homine,
cuius latus perforatum
fluxit aqua et sanguine:
esto nobis prægustatum
mortis in examine.
O Iesu dulcis!
O Iesu pie!
O Iesu, fili Mariæ!
Miserere mei. Amen.
